Driver Training and Safety at Robertson Williams Transport

At Robertson Williams Transport, safety is and always has been the heart of everything we do dating back to our inception in 1969. Our commitment to rigorous safety standards and exceptional driver training ensures that every delivery is executed with the utmost care and precision. We prioritize the safety of our drivers, clients, and the communities they serve, adhering to strict protocols and regulations.

Our Safety Protocols

  • DOT and FMCSA Regulations RWT ensures compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) guidelines. Our drivers are trained to understand and follow these regulations meticulously, guaranteeing safe and legal liquid hazmat transport.

  • Hazmat Placards For deliveries involving hazardous materials, RWT utilizes proper hazmat placarding to mark all vehicles. This ensures that hazardous materials are transported safely and in compliance with all relevant regulations, reducing risk and enhancing safety.

  • Driver Training Our comprehensive driver training programs are designed to emphasize safe driving practices, emergency response, and exceptional customer service. RWT drivers receive continuous, ongoing training to stay updated on the latest safety protocols and techniques, ensuring they are well-prepared to handle any situation.

  • Internal RWT Protocols Beyond regulatory compliance, RWT has developed rigorous internal safety standards and procedures. These protocols are designed to protect our team as well as our clients, fostering a culture of safety that permeates every aspect of our operation.

Commitment to Hiring and Training

RWT takes hiring and proper safety training extremely seriously. We deliver some of the most hazardous materials a driver can haul over the road, so it’s crucial that we take the time to properly vet the driving history of any new employee.

From analyzing proper licensing and driver certifications to an elaborate and extended internal employee application process, getting the hiring process right starts with our a thorough process that screens new hires in a way that ensures we hire the right people first.

Haz Mat Driver Responsibilities

Haz Mat drivers at RWT are responsible for the safe loading, unloading, and transportation of liquid hazmat products. They receive loading information from dispatch, plan routes, load, and operate trucks/trailers in compliance with DOT requirements, meeting all hours of service, traffic laws, pre-trip and post-trip inspections, as well as FMCSA driver qualifications.

To ensure that RWT hires the right drivers, we emphasize that a new hire is detail-oriented and that they understand how to correctly load and unload without help and without incident upfront.  RWT drivers are also cross-trained to handle multiple products, maximize their DOT allowable hours, and perform tasks efficiently and error-free.

Comprehensive Onboarding for New RWT Drivers

All new Haz Mat haulers employed by RWT, regardless of their previous experience with other transport companies, will undergo a thorough startup process. This involves spending weeks working alongside, in the same truck, as one of our seasoned RWT veteran drivers as they deliver fuel to our customers. This hands-on training ensures new drivers learn the RWT way of doing things, maintaining our high standards of safety and service.
